[Parent post: "Energy usage excessive"] I’ll keep it short and sweet. I need ideas. I cannot get my energy usage down. It’s always been high but now I’m tired of it and with how expensive electric has gotten it’s getting overwhelming. I have gas water heater, furnace, stove, and dryer. Two window units, like 1500 sq ft house. But there is no trend that I can find. I’m averaging 1300-1700 kWh a month. Any help is appreciated. --- I have one room with too many windows. I have reflective foam on them, blackout curtains over that. Helps a lot. Thermostat is at 80 over the summer. When we have cool (below 80) nights i open the windows with fans blowing in on the east and out on the west. 2 story house would be out up top and in below. I check weather to see what time it starts warming up. I'm usually up at 430 or 530 closing everything up. As soon as it's below 80 in the evening i open everything up. Water heater is also on the lowest temp recommended. I have a large toaster oven and when it's hot i take it outside to use. In winter thermostat is at 60 and we wear underlayers. We have time of use pricing. Afternoons are around .40 so i often just turn the a/c off in the afternoons, especially if it's only 90. Small well insulated house and I've never used 1000kwh in a month.
