I've recently solved the modding process that includes getting MapEdit to work, doing some small map edits, saving them, rebuilding the game.db as my own mod and testing in-game using STEAMs version of the game. The map edits are confirmed as appearing in-game without any issues/crashes visible thus far. Database edits are possible on Windows 11, all avenues of getting MapEdit to work on modern systems has failed entirely, I resorted to using a Windows XP VM and attaching my Silent Storm folder to the VM, running MapEdit in the VM loads the program with zero issues, though a fun note is that the STEAM release seems to omit about 2GB of files the editor needs inside of the /res/ folder which includes models, textures, and tons of resources files the editor needs, I added the missing files in from the source code provided via Git Hub. This means it is entirely possible to fully modify Silent Storm in 2026, this was quite a bit of work as there is almost zero documentation and nobody really works on modding any more. If anyone is interested I wouldn't mind writing a small guide on how to get this working, it is definitely a lot of work to figure out on your own. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the game still! 👋
