I live in a 125 year old home on pier and beam. The original flooring is 3” pine planks over shiplap subfloor (probably cypress). We had LVP installed over the pine about 2 years ago (note: no vapor barrier was used between the LVP and the pine flooring). We also had all new windows and new HVAC installed more recently. In the last year, we’ve had higher moisture issues under the house. I suspect the new windows combined with new windows and new AC all have limited air flow under the house allowing the house to “breathe”. We are addressing those with increased ventilation and dehumidification under the house and are even considering “encapsulating” the crawl space. In the mean time, the pine boards under the LVP are cupping. So, we’re going to take up the LVP to deal with the cupping. There is my current question. Should I just try and repair the pine or replace it with some other “subflooring” (subfloor really isn’t accurate but you get my drift) like 4x8 OBS or plywood? I know we must get the humidity issues dealt with but I don’t want to do this again. Is 4x8 OBS or plywood less likely to give me problems? I live about 75 miles North of Houston and the rain levels have been very high so has humidity. I suspect that has increased the problem. Open to suggestions.
