Hole at bottom of window unit

scoredmonitor

Post

Just installed a window unit, never had to use them before. Curious what this big hole is for at bottom of unit, there’s two smaller ones with plastic clips on them next to it and what looks to be pre drilled holes as well. The grey plug on the side is the drain plug per instructions but it doesn’t say anything about these at the bottom. What keeps birds/bugs from flying up in there and making a mess. Thanks

Summary

The author is asking about a newly installed window unit and specific hardware details, but not about replacement, repair, or comparing window options.

Reasoning

This is window-related and shows active use of a newly installed unit, but the question is about identifying holes/drainage and pest prevention rather than homeowner pain points like drafts, damage, costs, or replacement decisions.
