[Parent post: "Energy usage excessive"] I’ll keep it short and sweet. I need ideas. I cannot get my energy usage down. It’s always been high but now I’m tired of it and with how expensive electric has gotten it’s getting overwhelming. I have gas water heater, furnace, stove, and dryer. Two window units, like 1500 sq ft house. But there is no trend that I can find. I’m averaging 1300-1700 kWh a month. Any help is appreciated. --- The heat reflective film is a great, low-cost suggestion. Also put as much vampire load items as possible on power strips, make sure you have low-wattage lightbulbs everywhere, get drying racks for laundry and seal air leaks around doors and windows. Personally, i avoid ac except on hottest days, using fans, chimney-effect attic ventilation and cross-ventilation but others find this ridiculous. My avg monthly electrical consumption is apx 350 kwh for my old 3br 2ba sfh.
