Weight loss for the first time…how do I start?

new

Post

I recently had a baby (yay!) but the baby weight is not coming off (not yay.) I’ve also never wanted/needed to lose weight before, so I’m completely at a loss of where to even start. I never had to watch what I ate before, and didn’t stick to any sort of regular exercise routine—I just kind of lived my life and somehow stayed at the same weight and I was happy with that. I’m in my mid 20’s, 5’8” and before my pregnancy weighed between 125-130lbs, which is where I’d like to end back up. Currently I weigh 160. I’ve seen conflicting info on if you’re able to lose weight in a specific area or not…so if it’s possible I’d like to focus on my belly and my thighs. If it makes any difference at all, I am exclusively breastfeeding. I’ve heard the “eat healthy and exercise!” before…but what does that really look like? How do I go about counting calories and meal planning? How do I even know how many calories I need? I’d also welcome healthy meal ideas/recipes, and tips on how to break my habit of snacking on unhealthy things late at night as I watch TV. As far as exercise goes, again, I’ve never really had to do it, so I don’t know where to start. All I’ve ever done is go on runs or play soccer with friends. What are some good exercises to do (and how to do them?) Is a gym membership worth it? How do I make exercise more enjoyable and not like a chore? Lastly how do I stay motivated, and what’s a realistic timeline to lose the weight? Thanks in advance!
