[Parent post: "Are these windows any good?"] Just bought a house and everyone keeps saying I need new windows but they look okay to me. They all open and close. It’s a little difficult on some but they do work. The sellers painted them to match the house. I personally love them but we haven’t lived in it yet so I can’t say how well they insulate. My husband and dad are insisting we change them now because bugs and dirt and energy efficien --- My energy company did an energy audit and told me not to mess with my old, wood windows. They showed me the payout would be, uh...never. I would do awnings before I'd replace (that's my plan), and that would help tremendously during the summer. During the winter, you can use window film if they're truly that bad. As for bugs, spray 'em. Make sure any gaps are caulked up. It's hard to tell from the pictures if it's possible, but I once stuffed a whole building full of similar frames with custom two-pane window glass. I'd be inclined to check into that, but wouldn’t consider replacement if they function well. Edit: During winter and occasional hot summer evenings we use blackout shades. That really helps and looks good, too.
