Location: Nashville, TN We recently uncovered substantial water damage around our 11 year old home. We are not the original owners and nothing major was disclosed to us when we purchased it 2 years ago. As the workers open the house to do repairs before they replace all the siding, they’re finding more and more corners that were cut and things that were obviously not up to code when built. There are entire sections of framing that are completely missing, the most egregious example being the spiral staircase on our upper deck that leads to the rooftop being anchored only to a 1/2 inch thick piece of plywood (thank god we never go up there). None of the windows or exterior doors were sealed properly. We are closing in on $80k worth of work already with more likely on the way. Do we realistically have any options to hold the original builder accountable? I’m going to see if there’s are any class action suits against them but am curious if we have any recourse on our own.
