ScamWarden — a second pair of eyes against scams Hi all — I've built ScamWarden , an Android app that watches your incoming messages on your device and warns you when a conversation looks like a scam, before you click a link, share a code, or send money. It's not a spam filter. Instead of just blocking bad numbers and links, it follows how the messages you're sent build toward a scam — the trust-building, the false urgency, the pressure leading up to the ask (the "social engineering" part most tools miss). And it's private by design : it only ever looks at incoming messages — never what you type — all analysed on your phone , with nothing uploaded unless you choose to send a report. I built it for the people scammers target hardest — older parents and busy young earners — as a quiet guardian on their chats. It's a closed test, so I need testers. ~2 minutes to join: Join the Google Group (this is how Google grants access): https://groups.google.com/g/scamwarden ⚠️ Use the same Google account that's on your Android phone , or the test won't show up for you. Opt in: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.scamwarden.app Install: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.scamwarden.app Then grant notification access (it needs that to read incoming messages) and let it run. There's in-app feedback — tell me anything it misses or wrongly flags; that's the most useful thing you can do. Needs: an Android phone (64-bit / reasonably modern), and ideally keep it installed ~2 weeks so Google's test window counts. Happy to test your app back — drop your link and I'll join. 🙏 And if the idea resonates — you've seen how it flags the conversations that look friendly but aren't — set it up for the people you love. An ageing parent, a relative who isn't glued to scam headlines. You can't watch over their shoulder every time a message lands. Let us be the eyes when you can't be.
